Personal Historian · Prince Edward Island

Saving lives, one story at a time.

You've said it yourself: someone should write all this down. I'm Darin — and you don't have to write a thing. Put the kettle on: you talk, I'll take care of every bit of the rest.

Movie night

What is a personal historian?

Two minutes, one blanket, maybe a tissue. It shows exactly what we'd make together.

On the mantelpiece

Every one of them said "my life isn't that interesting."

A gentleman telling a story from his armchair
mid-story, and nobody wanted him to stop
A woman sharing memories at home
"nobody ever asked me that before!"
A man recalling his first summer job
the summer of 1958, like it was yesterday

Shared with their kind permission — and every one of them was wrong. Your film stays by your fireside: it's never posted anywhere.

Two chairs, one fire

Hello — I'm Darin.

I've spent my life behind a camera, and I've learned the most important thing I'll ever point it at is a person telling their own story.

A legacy film is quiet, patient work — done in your favourite chair, at your pace, with lots of tea breaks. You hold the reins: what we talk about, who does the asking, and who ever gets to see it.

Little worries, tucked in

The questions every family asks

What if my life "isn't interesting enough"?+

Everyone says that — and everyone is wrong. Your first job, your first dance, what a dollar used to buy: to your grandchildren, that's treasure. Drawing out the gold is my job — all you do is remember.

Where does the filming happen?+

Wherever you're comfiest — usually your own living room, favourite chair included. I come to you, anywhere on the Island.

Who sees the finished film?+

Only the people you choose. Your film is yours — never posted online, never shared as a sample unless you ask me to.

What does it cost?+

Every story is different, so every project is quoted honestly up front — no surprises. The first chat is free, with no obligation at all.

The kettle's on

Your story is ready. All you have to do is tell it.

Call, text, or write — tell me a little about yourself, or about the family member you have in mind. I'll take it from there. No pressure, ever.
